Dec 17, 2019It's not the inner tie rod end. It's a loose bushing supporting the rack on that side. After three replacement racks (warranty), I bought a rack, took it apart and made a tighter bushing for the rack myself. The stock bushing (new) had clearance of .009 inch, and I made one with .0015 inch. Problem solved. All the early racks were like that.

So i should probably order a passenger side too? and the tie rod assembly i ordered because it was recomended to replace the driver side inner tie rod. Aug 11, 201216,182 Posts. #4 1 mo ago. I know you said the noise wasn't there before so along with rechecking that the tie rods are attached really tight. Don't break the tie rod ball stud. That inner tie rod needs to be really tight also. Aside from that, look close at the ball joints and lower control arm bushings.

If it were the wheel bearing you would be able to wiggle it at any position. 2000 Tundra Steering rack bushing replacement

May 01, 2014I replaced both inner and outer tie rod ends on the driver's side. This helped some but in reality probably put the shake to about the same level it was at when I started. Now, I wish I new a sure fire way to test the rack and see if the rack itself was the cause of the problem. Or should I just keep replacing tie rod ends, ball joints, etc.
